Ceremony remembers workers killed, injured on the job

People gathered in La Crosse for the 19th annual Workers Memorial Day to remember those who were killed or injured on the job or in construction accidents.

AFL-CIO unions have observed the memorial day on April 28 since 1989, and the ceremony has been celebrated locally since 1991. This year there were 69 workers remembered. Last year, 68 people were memorialized, this year another person who was killed in a construction accident in 2001 was also remembered. Each person is remembered by placing a cross in the ground with a United States flag tied to it. A crowd of 50 people went to the workers memorial to pay their respects.

Workplace injuries are life-changing to all involve, our thoughts are with the friends and family members of the workers remembered in the ceremony.
