Boaters are urged to wear life jackets

As the weather gets warmer, the boating law administrator for the Department of Natural Resources is urging all boaters to wear flotation devices.

With more than 15,000 lakes and rivers in Wisconsin, the boating possibilities are endless. the boating law administrator wants to make sure that boating safety is regarded while enjoying summer activities. Although Wisconsin law requires that each boat must have a certain number of life jackets on the boat, it does not require that adults wear them.

Last week, May 22-28 was National Boating Safety Week, a campaign that works to help remind boaters of the safety precautions that should be taken. The campaign includes public service announcements that say “Wear It!’ reminding boaters that life jackets can only help when you are wearing them.
