Whirlpool Corp recalls 1.7 million diswashers

Whirlpool Corp and the U.S. Consumer Product and Safety Commission have voluntarily recalled 1.7 dishwashers from the Maytag unit due to  fire hazard.

The recall occurred after 12 reports of the failure of the dishwashers heating elements resulted in fires that caused damage to the dishwasher and in one case, extensive damage to the kitchen.

Other brands included in the recall are Jenn-Air, Amana and Crosley. The dishwashers were sold between February 2006 through April 2010. Consumers are urged to contact Maytag to ensure that their dishwasher has not been effected.
