Study shows 90% of nursing homes have employees with criminal record

According to a government report, nearly 90 percent of nursing homes have employees with a criminal record and is thought that current system for how background checks are done could be the reason for this.

The investigation was done by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Inspector General in order to determine the number of nursing home employees that had criminal records and at first a random sample of 260 nursing homes were investigated.

The results showed that in 2009, nearly 92 percent of the homes had at least one employee that had a criminal record and almost half the sampled homes had at least five employees with a criminal record.
