Starbucks to pay $7.5 million after slip-and-fall accident

Posted on Wednesday, January 11th, 2012 at 5:19 pm

Starbucks has been ordered to pay $7.5 million as the result of a slip and fall accident that occurred in one of their coffee shops in 2008.

According to the lawsuit, the 51-year-old chiropractor bought a drink at a Starbucks store on Melrose Drive and he slipped while walking to the pickup counter. As a result, he fell and struck his head on the floor causing him to suffer a brain injury.

An employee had just mopped the area and claimed that there were three “wet floor” signs up, but most witnesses only saw one. The man was diagnosed with mild brain trauma and has not been able to return to his job. He has been awarded $7.5 million in  compensation.
