Automotive defect complaint leads to investigation

A man had his ear sliced by a piece of metal in an incident he claims was caused by the airbag deployment in his 2012 Hyundai Elantra. The piece of metal was located on the driver’s side of the vehicle, and it struck the man’s ear after detaching when the airbag deployed during an accident.

He filed the complaint with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Another person has filed a similar complaint in regards to this vehicle, and regulators have decided to launch an investigation into the claims.

The Elantra was awarded the honor of “Car of the Year” in 2012 at the Detroit auto show, and next to the Sonata, it is Hyundai’s best selling vehicle.
