Toyota to recall some hybrids with brake flaw

Japanese automaker giant Toyota said they will recall at least 242,000 hybrid cars in early June after receiving complaints regarding the vehicles’ brake pedals.

According to more than 90 driver complaints received by Toyota, the drivers needed to exert a greater than normal effort to utilize the brake pedal. Toyota Sales USA said they will inspect, and replace if necessary, the brake booster pump assembly of the recalled Prius and Lexus HS 250h models made between March and October 2009.

The effectiveness of the brakes was decreased due to a flaw that allowed nitrogen gas to leak into the brake fluid, a Toyota spokeswoman said.
