Hastings killed in LA car crash

Michael Hastings, the journalist who wrote the article that made U.S. commander in chief in Afghanistan, Stanley McChrystal, resign in 2010, was killed in a car crash, according to a statement on June 18.

Ben Smith, editor-in-chief of online news outlet BuzzFeed, said 33-year-old Hastings was killed, but that no other details were yet available from authorities to confirm the death of the journalist. However, an accident report was received by police on June 17 stated that a man was killed in a fiery crash after his car slammed to a palm tree near Hollywood. Authorities said they have to first identify the body of the man that was burned in the crash.

Hastings was best known for his controversial article in Rolling Stone magazine entitled “The Runaway General.”
