A study conducted over the course of 2009 shows that Wisconsin saw fewer traffic deaths than had been reported for 65 years. Although this is good news for the state overall, the report also showed that rural traffic fatalities are higher than average.
Traffic fatalities in 12 rural counties all surpassed their average annual rates over the past five years. The report suggests that these rural areas have these higher than average fatality rates because of underdeveloped roads and higher rates of driving while intoxicated.
