The Center of Disease Control has said that the Listeria outbreak from cantaloupes has now been considered the deadliest outbreak in recent history. It has killed 13 people and sickened 72 across the nation.
Additional deaths are currently being investigated at this time, which means that the death toll may rise to 16. Seventy-two people have become ill after eating the cantaloupe and officials think this number will rise because the incubation period for symptoms is up to four weeks.
The 18 states that have reported illnesses include: Wisconsin, New Mexico, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Montana, Missouri, Maryland, Texas, Colorado and Florida.
