Two men were killed after their fertilizer truck plunged into the river in Menomonie on March 5.
Diver crews removed the spilled fertilizer that contains herbicide for killing crabgrass after a truck containing 12 tons of fertilizer drove off a bridge and plunged into the icy river. The two men who were killed in the truck accident were identified as Mohammed Malin and Batrodin Siyad.
Initial response to the accident was made to recover the two men from the wreckage, then divers began to remove the fertilizer from the river. Days later, containment vessels and vacuum truck were used to collect debris and spilled diesel on the surface of the river.
A video of living fish were captured by salvage divers on March 9, as they mapped the bottom of the river where the crash happened.
