Walmart recently agreed to pay a fine and said it will improve the safety conditions of its stores nationwide after investigators found safety violations that endanger employees in one of its stores in New York, a report on Wednesday, August 7 showed.
In an agreement negotiated with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Walmart will pay a fine worth $190,000 and will ensure that the safety conditions of its more than 2,800 stores are adequate after OSHA found “repeat and serious” violations in one of its stores in Rochester. The dangers cited by OSHA in Walmart Rochester were lack of employee training in handling hazardous materials, practicing dangerous trash compactor procedures, and blocked exits. These dangers have also been found at other stores throughout the country.
Although Walmart has agreed to increase the safety of its stores, these dangers could have seriously injured both employees and visitors to the store.
